Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penggunaan Contextual Guessing Technique untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca mahasiswa. Masalah pada penelitian ini adalah ‘Bagaimana Contextual Guessing Technique meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pada mahasiswa semester empat Universitas Batanghari-Jambi tahun ajaran 2013/2014?’. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa semester II/A yang terdiri dari 30 orang mahasiswa. Penelitian ini adalah Penelitian Tindakan Kelas yang diadakan dalam tiga siklus. Data pada penelitian ini diperoleh dari tes, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Persentase nilai rata-rata siswa tes awal adalah 49.2% dan pada tes akhir adalah 72%.
