Cultivating Leaders for the Purpose of Church-Planting Multiplication at Highland Park Presbyterian Church

In order to plant churches to reach the globalized city of Dallas, this project offers a strategy to identify, develop, and deploy leaders using medium-sized communities to cultivate an environment of church multiplication. Highland Park Presbyterian Church (HPPC) is a regional church with a vision for global impact. The congregation is a theologically evangelical, Reformed, and orthodox church with a rich history and engagement with the renewal movement within the Presbyterian Church (USA). With a heart for disciple-making, HPPC is becoming an innovative church within the maze of a traditional denominational structure. The project will develop a strategy for creating an intentional environment that propels members at HPPC to experience a culture of multiplication. The plan includes the creation of medium-sized communities and the development of an intentional leadership pipeline. The gospel-saturated culture at HPPC can propel it to have a vision to plant churches in the growing urban and cosmopolitan communities in Dallas. The paper contains three major sections. The first will reflect on the current health of HPPC and the unique challenges of the surrounding community. This section will provide significant insights into the prevailing ethos of the church community that have been hindrances from multiplying disciples. The middle portion will describe the theological and biblical foundation of multiplication of leaders for church-planting initiatives. The final section will propose a concrete strategy for injecting a multiplicative environment for developing leaders. It will describe the formation of medium-sized communities with an emphasis on missional impact. The desired outcome is to paint a clear and exciting future for HPPC based on the theological mandate given by the Scriptures. This paper will assess the challenges and opportunities that Highland Park Presbyterian faces in order to achieve its desired Kingdom mandate: to become a church that multiplies church-planting leaders for God’s glory.
