The Degree of Parental Awareness of Their Children\u27s Language-Building Readiness Strategies and the degree of practicing them and its Relationship with so variables

Abstract: This study aimed to detect the degree of awareness of parents in the United Arab Emirates of their children\u27s language-building readiness strategies and the degree of practicing them from their perspectives and its relationship with the parents\u27 educational qualification and economic situation. The researcher prepared a measure consisted of (51) items and distributed it to the study sample which consisted of (115) parents who were chosen by using simple random sampling technique and distributed according to the study’s variables. After the implementation of the study and the analysis of its data, the results showed that the degree of parental awareness of their children\u27s language-building readiness strategies as a whole was moderate, and that was lower than the desired degree, while the results showed that the degree of awareness in the language-building readiness in emotional and speaking dimensions was high, and in the dimensions of listening and reading was moderate, and low in the writing skill dimension. In regards to the degree of practice, the results indicated that the parents\u27 practice was moderate on the measure as whole, but it was high on reading skills, speaking and emotional dimensions, and moderate on listening skill dimension, and low on the writing skill dimension. The results also revealed that there was an impact of the educational qualification and in favor of holding university degree in the degree of awareness and practicing of these strategies, while there was no impact of economic situation nor the interaction between the educational qualification and economic situation. The study came up with a number of relevant recommendations including educating parents about language-building readiness strategies and how to practice them for the formation of good linguistic behavior of their children.
