Finding Latin American and Spanish Videos for Research, Teaching, and Learning

Use of streaming video to support research, teaching, and learning is increasingly valued by the academic community. Streaming video services such as Netflix, Amazon Video and Hulu offer limited catalogs of Latin American & Spanish films. Despite the proliferation of videos on the Internet, free and legal access to online Latin American and Spanish videos still remains a challenge. During this session, faculty and students will learn how to find pertinent videos to use in their courses and research endeavors. This workshop will focus on moving images that are hard to find such as independent films, unedited raw footage, newsreels, recently restored copies, and historical survivor testimonies of harsh realities under dictatorships. The workshop will provide visibility to the “underdog” of the film industry to promote awareness of moving images representing the great variety and diversity of Latin American and Spanish video production on the Internet
