Emilio Nunez, Class of 1927, was New York City\u27s first Hispanic judge, serving on the New York City Court of Special Sessions from 1952-1956, to which he had appointed by Governor Averell Harriman. He was later appointed an Acting Justice of the New York State Supreme Court and subsequently elected to that court in 1962. In 1968 Governor Nelson Rockefeller appointed Justice Nunez to the Appellate Division, First Department, where he served until his retirement in 1977. He was also a founding member of the Puerto Rican Bar Association, an organization which each year recognizes deserving individuals with the Emilio Nunez Award for Judicial Excellence.https://digitalcommons.nyls.edu/firsts/1001/thumbnail.jp
