Utilizing a Logic Model Design to Evaluate a Preparation Program for Teachers of the Visually Impaired

A small private university in a large metropolitan city in the southeast United States received grant funding to develop a master’s degree program for the teacher preparation of individuals to teach students with visual impairments. The purpose of this program evaluation was to examine the teacher of the visually impaired (TVI) preparation program to ensure that the program was adhering to the original purpose of the grant. A Logic Model of the TVI program was developed as a guide to the evaluation. Two participant groups were determined to elicit responses to surveys created for the evaluation. Current and past program participants made up one group, and adjunct faculty and program administrators made up the second group. Survey responses provided both qualitative and quantitative data. A review of archival data was also completed to give further insight into the program. Through the analysis of the artifacts and surveys conclusions were drawn regarding the TVI program. A discussion of recommendations for various stakeholder groups is included in the findings. Further recommendations for future research are included
