PbS/TiO2 nanocomposites were prepared by two methods using the sol-gel process: a one step process and a multi-step process. The incorporation of 3-mercaptopropionic acid, followed by the addition of Pb2+ generated covalently incorporated lead thiolate precursors which can then be converted to PbS/TiO2 nanocomposites by controlled thermal decomposition. Various ratios of bifunctional linker to matrix were used to monitor the incorporation of functional groups of the ceramic matrix, and the sol-gel process was used to produce a high yield ceramic materials.
