The purpose of this study was to analyze two instruments used in a large scale Autism genetics consortium. One instrument yields a Calibrated Severity Score (CSS) and involves a structured assessment that must be completed by a highly skilled and trained professional. The next instrument, Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS), is a questionnaire that can be filled out by a parent or teacher. Both yield scores associated with autism or autism risk. These two instruments were analyzed in regards to current and proposed ASD diagnostic criteria and compared with each other in order to determine if they can be used interchangeably in the research setting.
