In recent years there has been a decided nationwide trend for teachers to leave the teaching profession early in their teaching careers. As many as 33% of new hires leave teaching altogether in their first three years, and 46% leave within the first five years. The purpose of the current study was to identify which factors were predictive of whether or not new teachers would remain in the teaching profession. Participants included 102 male and female teachers from the Metropolitan Nashville Tennessee School System who had less than five years of classroom teaching experience.
