Trends and determinants affecting increases in college tuition and other costs are examined through an analysis of data from six universities within the Tennessee Board of Regents System. The timeframe for the study includes the fiscal years 1985–86 through 1998–99. Sources and uses of funds from state appropriations and student tuition are compared by reviewing actual financial statements from The University of Memphis, East Tennessee State University, Middle Tennessee State University, Tennessee State University, Tennessee Technological University, and Austin Peay State University.
