The objective of this study was the design, construction, and preliminary qualification of the Mobile Emissions Measurement System (MEMS) for in-use, on-road testing of heavy-duty diesel-powered vehicles. This included selection of emissions analyzers and sampling system components capable of producing emissions results of similar accuracy to those attained with laboratory-grade instruments. A thorough investigation of commercially available systems, and a literature review, identified no suitable designs.
