After serving from 1969 to 1972 as associate dean and vice president for academic affairs at Albion College in Michigan, he became provost and vice president for academic affairs of the University of Richmond, the position which he was holding when he came to the attention of the search committee. Glassick was married in 1952 to Mary Williams, the mother of their five children. He was a member of the Methodist church.
