On Memorial Day in 1921, 100 Linden trees planted on Back Cove Boulevard (later renamed Baxter Boulevard after former mayor and city benefactor James Phinney Baxter) around Portland\u27s Back Cove were dedicated as a memorial in honor of WWI soldiers.
