This article is presented as a brief survey of the present state of research on the emergence of Jewish apocalyptic. Part I discusses apocalyptic against a general religiophenomenological background. Part II demonstrates how recent research mainly points to the prophecy and wisdom literature of the Hebrew Bible as the background from which Jewish apocalyptic literature emerged. Part III points out that many of the single motives and features of Jewish apocalyptic literature come from the neighbouring religions. The main conception, however, is genuinely Jewish and must be understood on the basis of the Hebrew Bible.
