This article presents a review of the management of Mexico’s Archbishop Jose Lanciego in front of the archbishopric in relation to the ecclesiastical policy of Philip V and the regular clergy. Lanciego well known for representing the interests of the new monarchy in the Indian Church, which resulted in strengthening the authority of the bishops at the expense of the traditional power of religious orders. He is also known for encouraging their clergy, reinforcing the authority of the ecclesiastical judges, favoring the division of parishes and doctrines and trying the secularization of 60 doctrines.
