La función de Santafé en los sistemas de intercambio en la Nueva Granada a fines del siglo XVIII

This paper examines the role of the Viceroyalty of the capital in the interregional exchange system which it was part during the late eighteenth century; after establishing the hypotheses, we make an empirical and quantitative performation of some of them through the analysis of the most reliable indicators of the commercial activity in the colonial times; given the accounting characteristics of the records, we can establish some of the regions from which the flows of domestic products to the capital were born and determine the intensity of this trade. The peculiar character of market relations which linked Santafé suggests a variation of the model proposed by Assadourian to explain the spatial nature of the sphere of circulation in the Peruvian colonial context as well as in Nueva España (Guadalajara) and Popayán (Nueva Granada). Este trabajo estudia la función de la capital del virreinato en el sistema de intercambios interregionales del que hacía parte a fines del siglo XVIII; una vez establecidas las hipótesis, se realiza una contrastación empírica y cuantitativa de algunas de ellas a través del análisis de los indicadores más fiables de la actividad comercial en la época colonial; dadas las características contables de los registros, podemos establecer algunas de las regiones desde las cuales nacían los flujos de productos domésticos hacia la capital, y determinar la intensidad de dicho comercio. El peculiar carácter de las relaciones mercantiles que eslabonaba Santafé sugiere una variante del modelo propuesto por Assadourian para explicar la naturaleza espacial de la esfera de la circulación en el contexto colonial peruano, así como en la Nueva España (Guadalajara) y Popayán (Nueva Granada).&nbsp
