PThe development of reproductive organs of Cryptopleura violacea (J. AGARDH) KYLIN and Polyneura latissima (HARVEY) KYLIN were observed on the basis of specimens collected on November 1980, by Drs. M. Masuda and J. West from Duxbury Reef, California. Consequently, the following characters were confirmed. Cryptopleura violacea: 1) the procarps are formed at random near the tips of the frond, 2) the mature procarp consists of a four-celled carpogonial branch, two sterile groups, and the supporting cell, 3) before fertilization, the mother cells of two groups of sterile cells usually remain undivided; only rarely does the mother cell of the second group once divide, 4) the carposporangia are borne singly on the gonimoblast branches, 5) the tet...
