Abstract

José María Salaverría e Ipenza (1873-1940) published Vieja España in 1907. This contributed to the Castillian issue, that defines the writing of the «Generación del 98». The preface to this text was written by Galdós, who also pushed forward with its publication. The Regenerationists proposals from Salaverría, as well as his consideration of Don Quijote, are the opposite ones to his fellows' (Unamuno, Maeztu and Azorín). These proposals are an original approach from Conservative and Ultra-nationalists positions. According to him, to emphasise the poverty of the country, and the defending of the Cervantes' character as the martyr who redeems the Spanish collective life are dangerous ideas.
