Guanyin carved horn

This object is made from the horn of a water buffalo, which is a beautiful red color. It represents a mounted figure who is Guanyin. She is a female Buddhist deity. She rides a Hou, or Buddhist lion, symbol of energy and valor, which carries Buddhist deities throughout the divine and temporal worlds. Her right hand gives the sign of blessing and her left hand holds what seems to be a tablet. The tablet is probably a symbol of her knowledge. One will notice the crown on her head, which is typical of Guanyin. The base of the sculpture looks like a cloud, which is the symbol of otherworldly realms. The horn is hollow, making the figure lighter and more delicate. This object has some age to it as it is beginning to decay. The shape of the sculpture corresponds with the shape of the horn.
