This paper attempts to verify the use of the function of “Voice” in the formative period of Japanese modern poetry, based on the lines of “Utaimono” and “Katarimono”. In the process of making Japanese modern poetry, Buson’s prose poem “HAITAI-SHI”, regarded as one of the predecessors of Shintai-shi, was circulated from Toyama Masakazu’s works to Shimazaki Toson’s last poem and the reassessment of Buson’s works by Hagiwara Sakutaro, and ended as the starting point of Japanese poetry for the second time
