This carved figure is made from elephant tusk. The figure seems to be Guanyin, Buddhist goddess of mercy. She has an elaborate hair style with flowing ribbons which extend from the back of her head to her feet. There are several lotus flowers that are attached to her body. This is a sacred Buddhist flower and symbol of purity. There are ornaments hanging from her belt with not-yet-deciphered seal script on them. She holds an upside-down basket of flowers in her hands, possibly dropping the lotus flowers on the ground as she goes and thereby spreading the divine truth. She is attached to a carved wooden stand
