Penelitian dan pengembangan alat produksi kitin dan kitosan telah dilakukan. Peralatan tersebut menggunakan sistem jaket panas dengan metode transfer panas secara konduksi. Hasil dari penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penghantar panas secara konduksi lebih baik, dapat menghantarkan panas secara langsung pada proses demineralisasi, deproteinisasi dan deasetilasi. Meningkatkan efektiftas hingga 41,4%, meningkatkan nilai konduktivitas panas hingga 10% dan meningkatkan rendemen kitin hingga 38% dan kitosan 31,8%. Kualitas dari produk kitosan, seperti kadar air, kenampakan, derajat deasetilasi, solubility pada CH2COOH 0,5% cocok dengan standar dari negara Jepang dan Korea
