Three Vampires, Two Humans and a Werewolf: Comparing Sexualities in The Twilight Saga and The Southern Vampire Mysteries

This essay looks at the difference in the connection between the three main characters in the four Twilight Saga books and likewise the three main characters in the first four books of The Southern Vampire Mysteries. It looks at the two main girls in each series from a feministic point of view, how they cope with the temporary and permanent end of their relationships. In the first chapter the history of the vampire legends and vampire fiction is looked at, followed by a closer look on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga and Charlaine Harris’s Southern Vampire Mysteries. The fourth chapter compares the girls’ reactions to when their significant others leave, be it for short term or the long term. The fifth and sixth chapters look at the Byronic hero and feminism.
