There lived a jealous lover, In love with a beautiful maid. One night while the moon shone brightly, And the stars were shining too. Unto this maidens cottage, This jealous lover drew. Come lover and we will wander, Down where the woods are gay. While roaming we will ponder, And appoint our wedding day. So arm and arm they wandered, The night birds sang above. This jealous boy grew angry, At the beautiful girl he loved. Down on her knees before him, She pleaded for her life. But deep into her bosom, He plunged a fatal knife. Oh, Willie, my poor darling, Why have you taken my life? You know I’ve always loved you, And wanted to be your wife. I never have deceived you, And with my dying breath. I will forgive you Willie, And closed her eyes in death. Way down in the low green valley, Where the roses bloom and fade.
