University of Arkansas Commencement Address, 1966

COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS J. E. Jonsson January 29, 1966 Mr. President, members of the faculty, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, members of the graduating class: It has been my intent and desire to visit this great institution and campus for some time. I have long admired and respected your president and the University of Arkansas sons and daughters it has been my privilege to know. I had hoped to await the time when some fine Texas football team had enjoyed a great victory over the Razorbacks. Recent experience has forced the conclusion, though, that this might not happen in my lifetime and if I were ever to have the pleasure of a visit, I should accept Dr. Mullins' invitation to be with you today. Lest I leave the wrong impression with these comments, let me assure you that as the Mayor of Dallas, I sat on your side of the Cotton Bowl New Year's Day, and the Razorbacks are still the Number One team in my book. I am honored to be with you on this important occasion. As with most Commencement speakers and especially those of my vintage, the opportunity to counsel and advise is irresistible. I do make on
