I am told that I looked considerably older in 1930 and further that the public had recovered from the shock of a young man asking for the office (Roane Huston). I received about 60000 [votes] in the first race finishing second in the field of seven. When the 190 campaign approached many of friends urged me not to make the race. The administration seemed impregnable.
