2 The four sons of Jean Baptiste Imbeau and Catherine Martin were Joseph, Francis, Jean Baptiste II (called Baptiste to distinguish him from his father), and Pierre. Only Joseph remained with his family at Arkansas Post. His children by Marie Bolton are described in her will and in the Catholic Register (6). Pierre married Helene Faillasse, part Indian. Their two children Helene born 1797 (married Baptiste Souligny 1830) and Maria born 1799 (7). There is a Marie Imbeau in Jefferson County in 1830 Census, but since there were several Marie Imbeau's one can't be sure. Pierre may have died early as he is not mentioned in Spanish Land Grants, pre-emption filings, or in the Treaty of 1824. Jean Baptiste II married Marie Bartholomew in a Catholic ceremony 1707. She was a minor at that time. An Indian ceremony took place previous to that time (8). There is no record thus found of children by this marriage. His second marriage was to Marie Louise Daigle. Both these wives were part Indian. Of the second marriage, Joseph and Bernard Alexis were born. Jean Baptiste II seemed to have lived his adult life in Jefferson County, completely adopting the Quapaw way. He is listed in the Treaty of 1824 as receiving 80 acres of land in Jefferson County. His Indian name was White Elk, and he is described as one of the Quapaw Chiefs or headsmen who followed Sarasin back to Arkansas from Louisanna (9).
