1. 1686. Six Frenchmen first occupied Tonti's post in 1686. Only two had remained behind when Joutel visited the post in 1686. 2. 1699. The post was abandoned by 1699. There were about 80 Frenchmen in the party which first landed at the Arkansas in August of this year. ANC, G1, 464. 5. Feb. 18, 1723. 41 whites and 6 slaves occupied the Arkansas at this time.
