Abilene, Texas Dr. Lawrence Clayton, a professor and dean at Hardin-Simmons University, has written about Texas ranching history and contemporary cowboy folklife. But his primary academic interest is “bad history” or legends which encompass versions of the past that people want to believe but that are not supported by facts.
