Mrs. Charles Kemble as Urania

Pen and ink drawing (undated) of actress and singer Mrs. Charles Kemble (Maria Theresa De Camp) (1773-1838) in the role of Urania. In Greek mythology, Urania is a daughter of Zeus. In 1802, poet William Robert Spencer's 'Urania' was staged at the Drury Lane Theatre in London. The play was a comedy satire of the German love of mythological beings, with Maria De Camp in the lead role. De Camp, who played many leading roles for the Kembles, married Charles Kemble in 1806. Their daughter was actress Fanny Kemble Butler, born in 1809. The drawing is accompanied by an autograph card
