Pen and ink portrait (dated 1905) of American actress Maude Adams (1872-1953) in her most popular role as Peter Pan, which she first performed in 1905 at the Empire Theatre in New York City. Her income reached one million dollars that year. Adams also played the role at the Lyceum Theatre (Scranton, Pa.) in December 1912. The portrait is done in artist P. W. Costello's characteristic cross-hatched style, with a brown-toned watercolor background wash. The drawing is accompanied by an autograph card, signed by Adams in 1900
