The desire for improved fuel efficiency has increased in the recent past, with the rise of smartphone users, this paper will consider how to use a smartphone (more specifically the Samsung Captivate, an Android phone) to improve the ability of drivers to decrease their fuel consumption in their current vehicle. This considers using GPS data gathered from the phone and information gathered from the Engine Control Unit on-board the vehicle and using the smartphone to process that data and give realtime driving suggestions
