A new procedure for determination of alkaloids and other pharmaceutical drugs in urine using thin layer chromatography has been developed. The method utilizes 1 ml of urine in a semiautomated extraction system using Dragendorf reagent and Fast Blue BB for the detection of methylbenzoylecgonine, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, phencyclidine, chlorodiazepoxide and diazepam. A quick, simple, convenient and inexpensive procedure is suitable for qualitative analysis of up to 60 simultaneous samples.
