CROSS CULTURAL ADAPTATION & COMMUNICATION BEHAVIOR REGIONAL STUDENT OF TANRI ABENG UNIVERSITY

This study aims to identify and describe the cross-cultural adaptation and communication behavior as well as the obstacles encountered by regional students from Papua and Halmahera in TAU, Jakarta. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive with data collection technique through interview and observation. As newcomers, regional students studying at TAU are definitely facing the adaptation process and experiencing the barriers either academically or socially. Based on the research result shows that the process of cross-cultural adaptation and communication done by regional students is relatively good. However, they are aware of obstacles and cultural differences do not make them give up in continuing their adaptation due to both Papua & Halmahera students always put mutual respect in differences. The researcher also found the fact that regional students with good adaptation and communication skills have a tendency to get the good academic achievement. While students with slow skill in adaptation and communication their academic achievement are not good
