In this paper an attempt has been made to examine the growth of powerloom and cloth production in decentralized powerloom sector in India during the period between 2006-07 and 2012-13. The necessary data required for the study have been collected from the Annual Report of Ministry of Textile, Government of India. The results show that the number of powerlooms in decentralized powerloom sector has increased over the year during the period of study. There are approximately 5.30 lakh powerloom units with 23.47 lakh powerlooms as on 31.3.2013. The decentralized powerloom sector plays a pivotal role in meeting the cloth needs of the country.
