Add to ORKGFace theory is an influential theory used to discuss and explain politeness phenomenon, which is based on the western culture. This essay probes into the face theory embodied in the speech act under the background of Chinese culture. The aim of the comparison between face theory in western culture and in Chinese culture is to remove obstacles caused by cultural differences, promote cross-cultural communication and strengthen the awareness of the value of face theory in Chinese culture
