During the seventeenth century the king of France decided that he wanted to inflate the French territory to the continent of North America. Like other European powers there was a great desire to explore and venture into the new territory that France declared New France . New France at the turn of the century began to take control of the largest area on the new continent. The territory was divided into two parts, Lower Louisiana and Upper Louisiana, and together French territory extended from Quebec to Mexico except that a small piece on the east side was taken by the English.
