International Legal Norms in Macedonia's Domestic Law

Constitutional law regulates the position of the norms of international law in the hierarchical structure of the domestic legal order of a state. In the Republic of Macedonia, international treaties ratified in accordance with the Constitution are considered as part of the internal legal order and cannot be changed by an act of Parliament. This solution confirms the principle that international treaties have more legal authority than all the other legal acts, with the exception of the Constitution. As an international treaty that has exerted a profound impact on the substantial nature of the catalogue of fundamental rights and freedoms in the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia, the European Convention on Human Rights can be directly applied by Macedonian courts and Macedonian citizens can exercise the right of individual appeal to European Court on Human Rights
