International YMCA College Summer School poster, 1928

A poster which served as a means for summer school recruitment for the summer sessions from July to August 1928 for the International Young Men's Christian Association College, now Springfield College. This session, as was the session the previous year, was for both men and women. This poster was possibly also mailed to fulfill requests as on the verso on one quadrant reads, "Summer School of Education International Y.M.C.A. College Springfield, Massachusetts." The poster gives information about the courses offered as part of the Summer School. As part of Physical Education Theory the courses offered are: Biology, bacteriology, anatomy, physiology, physiology of exercise, hygiene, first aid, athletic injuries, playground administration, psychology of physical education, corrective gymnastics, physical department administration, history of human body, social recreation. The Physical Education Practice of the course included: Calisthenics, dancing, apparatus exercise, mass games, classroom and school exercises. Coaching of Sports: Football, baseball, basketball, track, tennis, field hockey, swimming, boxing, wrestling. The Summer school also offered Graduate Courses directed to Qualified students who may carried graduate work under the supervision of Dr. James H. McCurdy. A particularity of the 1928 Summer School is that courses were offered in two languages: English (two courses), French (three courses), health education, tests and measurements, mental hygiene, economics, religious education.
