Campus planning of International YMCA College

This campus planning drawing, or proposed-quadrangle as listed, for the campus of the International YMCA College, now Springfield College, was done by architect Dwight James Baum somewhere between 1912 and 1920. The drawing shows the outlined dormitories, gymnasium, boys lobby, student lobby, chapel, auditorium, commons, and Woods Hall all surrounding an area of open space and pathways. An outdoor theatre is also shown by the Watershops Pond, now Lake Massasoit. Alden Street and Hickory Street are on the outskirts of the campus. The set up is very reminiscent of Thomas Jefferson's University of Virginia design. However, the library is not shown in the drawing (as is evident from the handwritten note of "where is library?"). The designs were never followed. Dwight James Baum was most active in New York and in Sarasota, Florida. His work includes the Sarasota Times Building (1925) and the West Side YMCA on 63rd Street between Central Park and Columbus Avenue among many others
