Mike (also known as Spider), Glenn, and W.F. were captains for the track and field team.Klatka has been the head coach of the Springfield College track and field team for 37 seasons as of 2013. His overall record is 447 wins and 156 losses, a winning percentage of .741. Klatka is only the 6th head coach of the track and field team at Springfield College. The first coach was Louis Schroeder, followed by Paul Otto, Jack Rothacher, Les Judd, and Vern Cox. In 1980, Mike Brown was an outdoor All-American and placed 2nd at nationals in the decathlon. He was inducted to the Springfield College Hall of Fame in 2008. W.F. Newhall was also an outdoor All-American in 1980 and placed 5th nationally in the 10,000 meters event. He was inducted into the Springfield Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007
