Athletic Team (1902)

This glass negative shows members of the Athletic Team of 1902. They are all students at the International YMCA Training School, now known as Springfield College. The members include: [top, L to R] Frederick F. Bugbee (class of 1903), Percy K. Holmes (class of 1904), [seated on chairs] Jack E. Sullivan (class of 1902), John C. Schroeder (class of 1902), Roy F. Seymour (class of 1904), and [on floor] Edward S. Elliott (class of 1904). Athletic Teams were formed for Municipal Field Days. According to an article in The Association Seminar (June 1903), “Every ward in the city is expected to have an athletic team composed of her very best young men, and the pentathlon scheme of scoring, adapted to their particular needs, makes it possible for every man to secure credit for whatever he may be able to do.
