This poster was created in 1958 as a tribute to Irvin R. Schmid, who coached Springfield College men’s soccer for thirty-six seasons (1948-1984, excluding 1963). Mel Stephens drew the poster's illustrations. Below his portrait is a brief statement about his accomplishments, and in the lower right corner is a list of the 1958 Soccer team’s starting lineup.During the 1958 season, Springfield College shut out their opponents in the first five games. They remained undefeated and won the New England Championships. On January 10, 1958, the Maroons were voted soccer co-champions of the United States with CCNY.
