Understanding the etiology of severe mental disorders, specifically, psychosis, is essential to improvement of prevention and intervention methods. This project investigates the relationship between early childhood adversity (CA) and psychotic disorders in adulthood. It also examines how the effects of other factors, including demographics (sex, ethnicity, SES) and genetic pre-disposition (parent diagnosed with psychosis), affect this relationship. Data are ascertained from a longitudinal birth-cohort study, the National Collaborative Perinatal Project (NCPP), which enrolled pregnant mothers and followed them and their newborn offspring through age seven (1959-1973).
