POGIL or Process-Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning is a method that requires students to work in small groups, view models or diagrams, and answer carefully designed questions that guide them to an understanding of the subject matter on their own, with minimal direction from the instructor. POGIL is a highly effective method that engages students in activities that build language proficiency as well as independent learning skills, critical thinking skills, and teamwork. Preliminary results from completed student assignments show that a modified version of the POGIL method may also prove effective in a flipped classroom environment.
