A study of the transportation of mine rock by pumping

The conclusions arrived at in regard to the practicability of utilizing pumps instead of skip haulage for the removal of ore and waste from mines are entirely theoretical, as it was impossible to make actual conparative runs. These results were arrived at by comparing known or estimated costs for both types of operations. The abrasion studies were conducted in the laboratory of the Mining Department at the School of Mines and Metallurgy. The pressure tank was designed in an effort to counteract the present necessity for using single stage pumps in sand pumping, and to find a means for eliminating the high rate of abtasion in such pumps --Preface, page iii
