The purpose of this study is to show how the efficiency in earthmoving projects can be increased by the application of engineering principles. Efficiency can be increased by choosing equipment to fit the given set of conditions; and, having chosen the equipment, operate it at its maximum efficiency. In order to choose the right equipment it is necessary to study the conditions under which the equipment must operate. It is then necessary to study the machine in order to ascertain its adaptability to the existing conditions --Introduction, page 1
