On some researches about youth’s acceptance of self and acceptance of other people – family conditionsIn psychology, the view on some relationship between self – esteem and acceptance of others is widespread. It is arbitrarily acknowledged that it is just self – esteem that influences attitude towards other people. E. Fromm was one of the first researchers who dealt with this issue. He maintained that only a man who loves himself could love human beings, and hatred of himself blocks friendly interpersonal contacts. However there are some psychologists, e.g. J. Kozielecki who are convinced that somebody˘s positive attitude towards himself does not always have an influence nice relations generally to people. That conviction is supported by some researches. It is proved empirically that some factors modify size of correlation between acceptance of self and acceptance of others. To such a group belongs e.g. following ones: stress, psychological distance between a subject of experienced acceptance and people, cultural traditions in which an individual has been brought e.g. his character and accepted moral principles. J. Kozielecki (1986) expressed an assumption that measuring concerning the index of self – acceptance probably is an essential factor, too. Adolescents aged from 14 to 19 were selected for research. A group of youth from broken homes was compared to a group of school pupils from full, correctly functioning homes. The Q – sort technique elaborated by A. and J. Brzeziński and Berger’s Quotients were used in order to test the level of self – esteem. The latter technique served also to measure the level of acceptance of others
