The profession of social work acknowledges that social workers need to develop personal resilience to manage the emotional demands of the job effectively and sustainable. In the social work practice courses we discuss the importance of these non-cognitive skills, but we do not call them such. By operationalizing them, students will be able to clearly identify these skills and better understand which areas they need to grow in both academically and professionally. The redesigned SWK 708 and SWK 709 courses employed Design Thinking techniques to improve student outcomes including improved analytical and critical thinking skills around academic and personal resilience
