This thesis examines the influence of the political oligarchy in the political representation of women in Indonesia. Although Indonesian law has mandatet a quota of 30% for women's involvement in the management of political party and legislative candidacy, the political representation of women is not high.the policy of affirmation action through party quotas in an effort to reduce political discrimination was not succesful enough to increase the political participation of women, because political parties are still dominated by oligarchs who are not in favor of women.
